Movement is a brick. Let’s build a dance performance with them! Together. Movement by movement.
Building is choreography. Space is the choreographer. The space within you, around you, between us, between objects and materials, between different times. For example, between the time you’re reading this and the time of the performance. All these movements are already building the performance Movement Is a Brick.
Every movement counts.

You can ask any questions about the performance “Movement Is a Brick” to the choreographer, who in this case is space. And listen to the response—not just with your ears, but also with your skin, your attention, and your body in motion and at rest. You can do this right now, as you read this, or later, when you come to the performance.
Every movement counts.

The text above is already a choreography—for both the performers and the audience.
Every movement counts.
You’re invited to come help build the performance—movement by movement—during the building process and stay as long as you like.

For each production—that is, each performance—DISCOllective invites artists to enrich and inspire the creative process through their own creative contributions. The performance is always staged at different locations and for varying durations. Thus, one could say that every performance is a premiere.

The performance Movement Is a Brick is a continuation of a series of performances in which DISCollective, through its choreographic proposals, acts as a mediator between the choreographer, the audience, and the performers.
This series includes the performances Pause (2025, choreographer: in-between), Applause (2025, choreographer: beauty), Otherskin (2023, choreographer: clothing), Lost & Found (2023, choreographer: the forgotten, the discarded, the cast-out, the lost movements, dances and choreographie), Time Dances (2022, choreographer: time), DISCOntact (2021, choreographer: touch), DISCOrrespondence (2021, choreographer: eternity).

Performances
DISCOllective was at the residency at Absence Space in January 2026. And it is here that Movement is a Brick got its beloved form, ie to be performed inside and outside of the venue (theatre, gallery, museum or anything else).
I had great honor to work with 蘇微淳 (Su, Wei-Chun) and Craphone ( 劉寅生, Liu, Yon-Sheng) on the second performance of Movement is a Brick. We further tested the discovery from the first day, to dance outside and inside a venue.
In addition we researched also the score that we continue to practice since then: the performers we start about a half an hour before people arrive. We continue dancing as people come and after certain time we make a break for drinks, food, talk. After some time, when the feelings says we should continue, we continue with the second session of Movement is a Brick.
Yet another layer was added. We collaborated with Dualik, a fashion designer and dj. DISCOllective thus started to invite also non-performers to add the dimensions of a dance that is built movement by movement together with everyone present.
The space of i(NFOTOČKA) is the latest addition to the unch of spaces at GT22. The gallery like space with glass windows and two entrances was ideal to further explore the perfomance Movement is a Brick. The space is placed at the one of the corners of the Main Square in Maribor and it is quite frequented.
David Kummer and Mathilde Vrignaud are two exquisite performers whom was pleasure to share the exploration space with.
The performance took place in the frame of Brezodra, a very specific festival you can read about on the link below (in Slovenian, so please use any translator available). Brezodra was happening in the ex-gallery space that is placed at the very busy street in the centre of Maribor with cafes, bakery, offices.
This offered us numrous possibility of building the dance performance from the movement of not only human beings.
Together with invited Christina Lederhaas and members of Brezodra, we built a playful performance full of rooms and hidden spaces, intimate and public.
This time Movement is a Brick happened in the context of Veronika Poetry Week in Celje. And it was co-built with Eva Šubic that just published her first poem collection. The performance actually started as a transition from the previous event of reading the poetry of nominated poets. Step by step we took the reading into the space of lapidarium and from there it became more explicit that we are building the performance with the movements of our attention.
The intricate relation between language and dance came about again, as a rich field of artistic research to be done. Though the interest in Movement is a Brick lie mostly in the kinesthetic level of any feature of reality – and thus treating language as a set of movements – we enjoyed that the peroformance itself, inlcuding all the present people, owned the direction and took us to where it was interested to go to.
Again we could experience how trust is a crucial choreographic ingredient in so called reversing choreographing.

Proposal for performers is here. And proposal for organizers is here.
